VOLTERRA

 

Volterra is one of the oldest towns in Italy. Of ancient Etruscan origin the town is home to a famous Etruscan museum filled with artefacts from this era and many archeological findings. The town itself is circled by imposing stone walls and towers and surrounded by totally unspoilt scenery with rolling hills and valleys. Volterra boasts an ancient amphitheatre and is very well known for its alabaster production.

 

In the summer months lots of concerts and local festivals are held in town, the most famous being the ‘medieval festival’ where the whole town goes back to the middle ages and there are parades, music and gastronomic stands galore.
